HTC Hero "Sprint style"

HTC Hero "Sprint style"

We've already reported that Cellular South would be offering the Sprint-styled HTC Hero to their 5 million customers around the gulf coast. That was already surprising news to us, considering we've never heard of the carrier before. But the news gets even better, Cellular South has just announced that they will price the HTC Hero at $99.99 (after $50 mail-in-rebate) with their new Smartphone Unlimited Plan ($79.99 with unlimited talk, text, and data). That sounds like a pretty good deal to us.

Our commenters have lauded Cellular South for their great network and affordability, so we wouldn't be too afraid to jump in (if you can). You can pre-order the device on their website but there's no firm release date yet, so we'll keep a watch for you guys!

T-Mobile Motorola CLIQ Off-Contract Price is $449.99

Motorola Cliq

If you were interested in the price of the Motorola CLIQ off-contract, you'll be happy (or is it sad?) to know that it's $449.99. For that gigantic lump sum, you'll be able to avoid a 2-year contract and still enjoy MOTOBLUR to its fullest (but you'll still probably need a data plan).

Luckily, if you don't qualify for the $199 pricing (which we personally feel is too high), there'll be a varied pricing structure depending on the status of your T-Mobile contract--so hopefully not too many of us will have to pay the $449 price.

How do you guys feel about the T-Mobile Motorola CLIQ's price of $199 with 2 year contract and $449 off contract? Will you be buying one?

More Info & Specs on Verizon Motorola Droid aka Tao aka Sholes

Motorola Droid

Motorola Droid

Okay, let's play a little bit of catch up. The device pictured above was first known as the Motorola Sholes, which for a little while turned into the Motorola Tao, and now looks to be named the Motorola Droid. Tao is our personal favorite since we're not even sure what a 'Sholes' is and 'Droid' being too repetitive of Android. Regardless of name, it looks like the Motorola Droid/Tao/Sholes won't run MOTOBLUR, instead rocking a 'with Google' build of Android (which actually lends more credence to the 'Droid' name) that will include native Adobe Flash support.

The reported specs of the Motorola Droid/Tao/Sholes (via phonedog):

  • 3.7″ screen with 854×480 (16:9 widescreen) capacitive touchscreen
  • 600 MHz ARM Cortex A8 Processor
  • Wi-Fi, EV-DO
  • 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash and video recording
  • QWERTY Slider, 13.7mm thick
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • 16GB onboard storage with microSD expansion slot
  • Android 2.0 'Eclair'
  • Launches December 1st Add a comment

Motorola CLIQ Box Art Leaked
Written by Rick Bonkestoter

T-Mobile Motorola Cliq boxart

The box art for the Motorola CLIQ has been revealed and *surprise, surprise* it heavily showcases social networks and MOTOBLUR. On the front side of the box we can see icons for Facebook, Twitter, Last.fm, MySpace, Yahoo! (!!!), and Google Talk. Perhaps that list of applications pre-loaded onto the CLIQ was right after all. Everything else as far as features and what's in the box is standard fare.

Motorola is really going on its own with the CLIQ, the inclusion of a Yahoo icon clearly distances the CLIQ from the Google brand name. In fact, as the box art stands now, I can't find a Google logo at all (Google Talk logo is in Google colors not Google name).

And honestly? This is the way it should be. Android is growing up and we'll continue to see it morph into different experiences--the beauty of the CLIQ lies just as much in MOTOBLUR as it does in Android. Though we'd still argue that including a Google logo would do a lot of good for the common consumer, this is likely a thing we're going to see more in the future. Android is Android, not Google.

What do you guys think of the box art? Is Motorola right in not including 'Google' on the box?

Acer A1 Black

Look what has just popped up for pre-order at Expansys, the folks who perpetually leak lots of lovely devices month in and month out… it’s the Acer A1 Android Phone! This thing has seen MORE than its fair share of leaks and rumors over the past year, so to see this latest development is encouraging to say the least.

Samsung InstinctQ Passes the FCC

Samsung InstinctQ passes trough FCC tests

The Samsung InstinctQ (also known as the Samsung M900) just passed through the hands of the Notorious FCC. And when yet-to-be announced products pass through the FCC, it typically means it's going to be announced sooner rather than later. So should we expect the Samsung InstinctQ/M900 to take over the daily headlines in the near future?

We think yes. The Samsung InstinctQ was previously rumored to release in October, and though that seems a wee bit too close, we're fairly certain an announcement (at the least) is on its way. The Notorious FCC leaks that the InstinctQ will rock CDMA/EV-DO connectivity which definitely points toward Sprint being the carrier. Everything else seems to be standard fare--Android OS, Bluetooth, and WiFi. The InstinctQ deserves bonus points for a hardware keyboard though.

What do you guys think? Is a hardware QWERTY keyboard enough to make you pass on the HTC Hero and wait for this puppy? Or are you just happy to see Android take off?
